Identifying Local Opportunities
1) “20-year-old
dies after New Year's Day crash into canal off Florida's Turnpike”
Summary: Young lady died in a car accident were for
whatever reason she lost control of her car and ran off the road crashing into
a canal.
Problem presented: Human error at high speeds are a liability to anybody surrounding
that vehicle, also though not specified, mechanical errors in cars at high
speeds are just as dangerous.
Who has the problem: Motorists, and anybody who decides to step into a car
lacking innovative technology designed to keep you safe from human or
mechanical errors.
2) “Nine hospitalized after car rear
ends Miami-Dade bus”
Summary: Car rear ends public transportation
bus for unspecified reason.
Problem presented: Yet another preventable incident
where due to human error or mechanical failure folks were injured in a car
accident.
Who has the problem: Once again, motorists, technology is
getting there but we’re not anywhere near where we need to be. Human error and mechanical
failure are still hurting people.
3) “One killed, two police officers
injured in Hialeah crash”
Summary: Once again, circumstances are not
specified but these officers and one gentleman got into a car accident, it cost
the man his life.
Problem presented: These last three stories happened within
2-3 days of each other during January 2018, for me this is a problem and a big safety
hazard. I lived in Miami most of my life.
Who has the problem: Motorists and anybody near the
streets where cars are passing.
4) “Do you think Florida drivers are
bad? This video proves it”
Summary: Florida has a problem with drivers
running red lights and causing deaths, the state is ranked third on red light
runners nationwide.
Problem presented: Unskilled drivers? Pissed drivers? Social
disconnect were drivers don’t care about others? Traffic induced aggression?
Who has the problem: People near or inside vehicles.
5) “Florida Keys - Restaurant reopens
just two days after truck barreled through”
Summary: Truck rams through restaurant section
20 minutes after families where eating there.
Problem presented: Lack of protection outside of the
restaurant to prevent such incidents, distracted management failed to predict
such occurrence and were not prepared.
Who has the problem: Everybody that dines there without a
barrier for stopping vehicles.
One thing I noticed was that three of these had to do with driving. One of mine also had to do with driving, so I think it's safe to say, something needs to change with driving, but what? I have been driving since I was 16 and have never even scratched a car, so does a change need to be made about my driving. IF a change does need to be made, what is that change? I think self driving cars are one of the solutions people are trying to encourage to stop the problems of deaths regarding cars, but is it the right solution?
ReplyDeleteWell, I think the technology exists, but for the very reasons you just mentioned consumers wont pay the premium for it. Also even if the technology is cheap and required for new cars, there's still plenty of 10, 15 and 20 year old cars in the road today. Self driving cars is not my ideal solution, but the automatic crash prevention breaking, lane keeping "assist", adaptive cruise control, safer cabins, improved protection and so on, and lastly driver education.. it would be very important to have less accidents.
